Rose Davies Wins Commonwealth Games 10,000m Gold

Rose Davies opened Australia’s Glasgow 2026 athletics campaign in magnificent fashion, claiming Commonwealth Games gold in the women’s 10,000m with a composed and courageous performance.

The Newcastle runner completed the 25-lap final in 31:39.32, finishing more than 10 seconds clear of Kenya’s Diana Wanza and Rwanda’s Florence Niyonkuru. Davies waited patiently through the early stages, moved to the front in the final kilometre and then drove decisively towards the title.

It was a superb example of tactical distance running. Davies respected the pace and the quality of her rivals, yet never lost confidence in her own strength. When the decisive moment arrived, the Australian was ready. Her powerful closing kilometre turned a measured race into a memorable green-and-gold victory.

Beyond the medal, the result demonstrated the consistency and maturity Davies has built across recent seasons. Winning a major championship 10,000m demands endurance, concentration and bravery, and she displayed all three qualities in abundance.

Australia could not have asked for a more inspiring start to the track program. Davies carried the nation’s colours with distinction and showed that Australian distance runners belong at the front of the Commonwealth’s biggest races. Her Glasgow gold was richly deserved and an outstanding reward for years of disciplined work.
