This autumn marathon majors preview discusses elite racing and the factors considered in the build-up.

Two of the fastest marathoners on the current world circuit have been confirmed for this autumn’s marquee marathon majors, setting up what organisers are calling one of the deepest fields in the event’s history.
Both athletes arrive off strong build-up blocks, having posted sharp half marathon times in the lead-up window, and coaches from both camps say the focus has shifted toward pacing strategy for the closing 10 kilometres rather than raw fitness. Wind and temperature on race morning are expected to play a significant role given the exposed final stretch along the waterfront.
The women’s field is similarly stacked, headlined by the reigning champion who returns to defend her title against a chasing group that includes two sub-2:20 debutantes. Broadcasters have expanded live coverage this year, with split-screen leader tracking planned for the final 5 kilometres of both races.
Entry lists close this week, and organisers are expected to release the official elite start list along with pacing group assignments in the coming days.
