Gold Coast Marathon 2026 results: Strintzos breaks the Australian record. Read Run HQ’s race report and supporting results coverage.

Haftu Strintzos delivered a landmark Australian marathon performance at the 2026 ASICS Gold Coast Marathon, winning the men’s race in 2:06:20. The official organiser reported that the Victorian broke the course record by 73 seconds and lowered the Australian and Oceania record by two seconds.

Almaz Kebebe won the women’s marathon in 2:24:53. The Ethiopian runner finished 48 seconds ahead of Kenya’s Antonina Kwambai, while Japan’s Kaede Kawamura completed the podium in 2:28:00.

World Athletics lists Strintzos one minute ahead of Hijikata, with only 28 seconds separating second and third. Four Japanese athletes occupied positions two through five. The winning mark is flagged as an Australian record in the official World Athletics result.

Kebebe’s winning time was 31 seconds outside the women’s course record. Nordberg was the first Australian woman, finishing fourth in a personal best of 2:30:22. The organiser reported that four Australian women finished inside the top ten.

A significant Australian victory

The organiser described Strintzos as the first Australian man to win the Gold Coast Marathon in 20 years, following Lee Troop’s victory in 2006. His 2:06:20 also surpassed the previous course record of 2:07:33 set by Yuki Takei in 2025.

The 42.195-kilometre race was held on Sunday 5 July 2026. The official race information describes a coastal course travelling south from the Gold Coast race precinct before turning north to finish beside the Broadwater at Southport.
