The men’s race came down to a tight sprint finish, with the top three runners separated by just four seconds after 21 kilometres of racing. A lead pack of eight held together through halfway before a mid-race surge on the riverside section thinned the group to three, and it was a late kick in the final 400 metres that settled the outcome.
On the women’s side, a confident front-runner broke away just before the 15 kilometre mark and never looked back, finishing more than a minute clear of the chasing pack. Organisers reported record entry numbers this year, with the event continuing to grow as a tune-up race ahead of the spring marathon season.
Age-category runners also had plenty to celebrate, with several masters records falling across the M40, M50 and W45 divisions. Full results and split times are expected to be published by the timing partner later this week.
