Australian Women Miss Commonwealth 4x100m Medal by 0.02s

The Australian women finished fourth in the Commonwealth Games 4x100m relay final, missing bronze by 0.02 seconds.

Australia’s women came agonisingly close to the Commonwealth Games 4x100m relay podium in Glasgow, finishing fourth after a fast, committed and technically polished run.

Ebony Lane, Chloe Mannix-Power, Monique Hanlon and Torrie Lewis combined to clock 43.09 seconds, missing the bronze medal by only 0.02 seconds. Georgia Harris also made an important contribution during the heats as the squad successfully qualified for the final.

Fourth place can be one of sport’s toughest results, but this performance deserves genuine celebration. The Australians handled the intensity of a major relay final with courage, attacked every leg and remained in the medal fight until the final centimetres. A margin of two hundredths of a second shows just how competitive they were.

Each runner brought speed and determination to the team. Their exchanges held together under pressure, Lewis chased all the way to the line, and the entire squad represented Australia with pride. The result adds further evidence that the nation’s women’s sprint program is moving strongly in the right direction.

A medal narrowly escaped them on this occasion, but the quality of the performance was unmistakable. Lane, Mannix-Power, Hanlon, Lewis and Harris can all hold their heads high. They gave everything for the green and gold, reached a Commonwealth Games final and came within the smallest of margins of the podium—an outstanding effort worthy of warm Australian applause.
